We aspire to help you to be as healthy as possible over the long term and to be able to do as much as you can do using the best evidence based medicine and looking at you as an individual. We try to bring the best traditions of personalised family practice but also incorporate the use of cutting edge medical technology.
We specialise in the management of long term conditions of all sorts but especially diabetes and mental health.
We operate a strict policy that most patients on any long term medication should have a check every six months.
The practice nurses are available by appointment for routine blood pressure/heart checks, child and travel immunisations, dressings, ear syringing smoking cessation and cervical smears.
However, they are able to offer far more.
Please have a look at the separate tab on the convenient in-house services our skilled practice nurses can offer you.
We offer comprehensive Child Health Services in conjunction with our Health Visitor and School Nursing colleagues. We routinely offer Baby Checks at 6-8 weeks of age in conjunction with the first child immunisations and post natal checks. Routine childhood vaccinations are provided by the surgery and are administered by the practice nurse.
If you are concerned or worried about anything and you have read or heard regarding any vaccination or diseases they protect against, please talk to us.
We offer shared care during pregnancy. Please let reception know that your appointment is for antenatal care, as this allows us to allocate appropriate time. Again for your convenience we do all postnatal checks at 6-8 weeks after the baby is born and usually this is combined with a routine baby check.
We offer on site, convenient, full, expert and comprehensive range of family planning methods to our patients including fitting of inter-uterine devices and systems as well as fitting of contraceptive implants, at our practice. Female doctors are available upon request.
Please book an appointment with the nurse for these. The best time to have these done, if you are still having them, is two weeks from the start of the last period.
Remember Cervical Cancer is a preventable disease and still tragically strikes a disproportionate number of women every year who have never had a smear or have had one infrequently.
The surgery is able to offer a wide range of minor surgical procedures in-house and specialise in joint injections for rheumatic conditions. Please contact us for details.
Free NHS Health Check At FedNet
Free NHS Health Check on behalf of surgery.
If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements. This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required.
There is further information about countries and vaccinations required on the links below
It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.
Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.
To help us offer the appropriate advice, please fill out the online form before coming to see the nurse.

Our Practice Nurse can dress the less complex wounds and skin ulcers conveniently, at our surgery premises. We routinely remove most sutures, clips and renew most dressings after a hospital or our Minor Surgical treatments. More complex wounds, ulcers, and/or dressings may require District Nurse or specialist Tissue Viability Nurse input.
Every person with asthma is both entitled to and should have a personalised comprehensive Asthma Care Plan. Our Practice Nurse works alongside our Practice Doctors to ensure that each person with asthma has regular reviews of their symptoms, has the best treatment to keep their symptoms away, and knows how to get the best out of their medication.
All people with high blood pressure and even those without need regular checks. Not only are we able to provide all the necessary help but we have our Practice Nurse who can check blood pressure but also can review other measurements and advise on other lifestyle measures to ensure that you do not develop any of the complications of having high blood pressure and that your heart stays healthy over the long term.
Our trained and skilled Practice Nurse can help the Practice GPs to review the symptoms, measure the severity, check the effectiveness of treatment and check the medication of people suffering from Chronic Obstructive Airways Disease (COPD) which includes Chronic Bronchitis and Emphysema. Also, they can advise and record lifestyle measures that may help treat these conditions as well as give critical influenza and pneumonia injections that prevent episodes of worsening.
To help keep our patients with Diabetes healthy and prevent the onset of complications, our Practice Nurse is trained in performing routine diabetes foot checks, checking the important measures of health in diabetes such as blood pressure, weight, etc and advise on lifestyle measures which are the key to managing the conditions.
The overwhelming majority of child health vaccinations are administered by the practice nurses, conveniently and fuss-free at our practice premises. We try to co-ordinate the first immunisations that children registered at the practice receive with their first baby check at 8 weeks of age alongside their mother's postnatal check to make a convenient "one-stop-shop".
Our Practice Nurse can skillfully perform cervical smears conveniently for all our eligible women. They can take some swabs and readily assist our GPs in Family Planning procedures such as contraceptive implants and intrauterine devices. They also can assist with HRT and Contraceptive Checks. Practice nurses are also able to administer contraceptive depot injections.
Our Practice Nurse also provides and delivers on a whole range of other monitoring, procedures, and services conveniently including B12, Vitamin D, and other injections, assisting in Minor Surgical Procedures and special circumstances some blood tests.
We pride ourselves in the fact that through our trained and skilled health professionals we can offer our patients within our premises the entire range of family planning choices appropriate to their health and being able to cross-check the safety of each against their medical records.
We strongly advise you to consider visiting The Family Planning Association website on www.fpa.org.uk to get some help on the available choices. Whether you visit this site or not we are always able to advise, talk you through your options, and also
We particularly urge you to consider the most modern and convenient forms of family planning called Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) methods, all of which we as a team can provide to you at the Microfaculty and include:
All of these are fantastic methods of family planning generally but especially so in women who are receiving treatment where it is not advisable to become pregnant or who had to use emergency contraception.
