To ensure your safety all requests for repeat prescriptions must be in writing and can be dropped in person or posted to us. Please provide a supply of stamped, self-addressed envelopes, with your requests, if you want your prescription to be posted to you. You can also request for prescription online by providing your GP surgery ID credentials which will allow you to gain access online.
We expect all patients who are being prescribed repeat medication to be reviewed in the surgery every six months whether you are well or not. This ensures your well being, that you receive optimum treatment and that safe practice is undertaken.
Several pharmacies collect repeat medication scripts from us sometimes for delivery. Whilst we will issue the prescription script within two working days, queries regarding dispensing and delivery are the responsibility of the individual pharmacy and beyond our control.
Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs). The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.
These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.
If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.

Sometimes hospitals and other clinics may give you a prescription script either to be dispensed through their pharmacy or at a community clinic. We strongly advise you NOT to bring these prescriptions to us.
Firstly, these may be for items that a hospital or other specialist pharmacy can only dispense.
Secondly, these may be for specialist items that the GPs at our practice do not have expert clinical experience (e.g. dose adjustments) in or the facilities to monitor properly.
Generally, we are unable to change private prescriptions issued by private hospitals and clinics to NHS prescriptions.
Sometimes these are for items not available on the NHS, those items that are being used outside of local NHS guidance, items that are unlicensed or require special monitoring, or special formulations that only that private healthcare provider can make up and dispense.
We may, at our discretion, sometimes change items that are ongoing repeat medication onto NHS scripts for that specific item or a close NHS alternative.
