Travel Health Advice and Immunisations
Our Practice Nurse at The Microfaculty Surgery can advise you a personalised service for you and your loved ones on how to stay in good health whilst aboard generally as well as both specify which health measures you need such as appropriate immunisations and administer them to you conveniently at The Microfaculty Surgery. Please see the separate tab in this section for more details.
Dressing of Wounds, Ulcers and Removal of Sutures
Our Practice Nurse can dress the less complex wounds and skin ulcers conveniently, at our surgery premises. We routinely remove most sutures, clips and renew most dressings after a hospital or our Minor Surgical treatments. More complex wounds, ulcers, and/or dressings may require District Nurse or specialist Tissue Viability Nurse input.
Asthma Reviews
Every person with asthma is both entitled to and should have a personalised comprehensive Asthma Care Plan. Our Practice Nurse works alongside our Practice Doctors to ensure that each person with asthma has regular reviews of their symptoms, has the best treatment to keep their symptoms away, and knows how to get the best out of their medication.
Monitoring of Blood Pressure and Heart Health
All people with high blood pressure and even those without need regular checks. Not only are we able to provide all the necessary help but we have our Practice Nurse who can check blood pressure but also can review other measurements and advise on other lifestyle measures to ensure that you do not develop any of the complications of having high blood pressure and that your heart stays healthy over the long term.
Chronic Obstructive Airway Reviews
Our trained and skilled Practice Nurse can help the Practice GPs to review the symptoms, measure the severity, check the effectiveness of treatment and check the medication of people suffering from Chronic Obstructive Airways Disease (COPD) which includes Chronic Bronchitis and Emphysema. Also, they can advise and record lifestyle measures that may help treat these conditions as well as give critical influenza and pneumonia injections that prevent episodes of worsening.
Diabetes Checks
To help keep our patients with Diabetes healthy and prevent the onset of complications, our Practice Nurse is trained in performing routine diabetes foot checks, checking the important measures of health in diabetes such as blood pressure, weight, etc and advise on lifestyle measures which are the key to managing the conditions.
Child Health Vaccinations
The overwhelming majority of child health vaccinations are administered by the practice nurses, conveniently and fuss-free at our practice premises. We try to co-ordinate the first immunisations that children registered at the practice receive with their first baby check at 8 weeks of age alongside their mother's postnatal check to make a convenient "one-stop-shop".
Sexual Health including Cervical Smears
Our Practice Nurse can skillfully perform cervical smears conveniently for all our eligible women. They can take some swabs and readily assist our GPs in Family Planning procedures such as contraceptive implants and intrauterine devices. They also can assist with HRT and Contraceptive Checks. Practice nurses are also able to administer contraceptive depot injections.
Other Procedures
Our Practice Nurse also provides and delivers on a whole range of other monitoring, procedures, and services conveniently including B12, Vitamin D, and other injections, assisting in Minor Surgical Procedures and special circumstances some blood tests.
